Activated charcoal consists of high density skeleton carbon structures which absorb contaminants and toxins and purify. Activated charcoal is used for treating water and in cosmetics such as toothpaste, masks and scrubs. Often referred to by its more scientific name, activated carbon, activated charcoal is a natural material rich in carbon whereby the pores of the charred material have been opened through a steam activation process, increasing the carbons surface area.

Activated carbon is characterised by its high porosity and adsorptive capabilities. Through adsorption, activated carbon can effectively remove a range of contaminants and impurities from liquid and air streams. Food Grade: This refers to ingredients certified by an independent body (such as the FSA) as safe for human consumption. They are tested and produced under strict food-safe conditions. However, once repacked by a facility not certified by the Food Safety Authority (FSA), the product can no longer be sold or labeled as food grade - even if the original source was certified.

Food Safe: These ingredients are pure, originally food grade, and commonly used in food. They are handled in hygienic conditions, and our facility is inspected and approved as food safe by local municipal health authorities. However, as we are not a certified food production facility, we do not label these items as food grade.

They are safe for personal use but not recommended for products intended for ingestion if being sold to the public. FOR YOUR SAFETY Note that while activated charcoal is considered 'food safe' in small infrequent quantities (i.e. in toothpaste and in emergency treatment of poisoning) this product is not fit for regular consumption and ingestion of large quantities.

Side effects of regular consumption of activated charcoal/carbon can include constipation and intestinal blockage. Ingestion/consumption is to be undertaken at the user's own discretion/risk.
